The slots are one of the most famous games to enjoy at casinos. On any given night, count on most of the machines to be filled with enthusiastic players. They come in a variety of playing levels; some only cost five cents a play and others can cost upwards of twenty dollars a spin. Although slot games are a gambling tool, a number of folks are intimidated by the big money card tables and are partial to the fun and excitement of an excellent slot machine game.

The earliest mechanical slot machine was built in Eighteen Ninety Five and was dubbed the "Liberty Bell." Invented by a California auto mechanic, the earliest slot machines had three reels with diamonds, hearts, spades and a cracked Liberty Bell painted on each. Prior to this invention, the phrase "slot machines" was used to characterize different types of vending machines.

The initial widespread use of slot machine games in American casinos is credited to the Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas in and around 1940. The head of the casino had initially thought the machines would be great to fascinate apathetic wives of some of the biggest whales of the brick and mortar casino. He did not anticipate that slot games would be an enjoyable activity for nearly everyone and that the appeal would extend beyond the the tired wives. At this time, it is said, slot machine games comprise over 2/3rds of all money generated by American casinos.

Slot machine games certainly have a rich history. From the small creation of the mid-19th century to the multi-million dollar industry of today, slots will continue to expand in popularity.
